As I sit down to compose this eulogy to Ism-e-Arzoo, I struggle to find adequate words to express my profound gratitude for this extraordinary gesture!
A few years ago, I was a voracious reader of Urdu poetry and shared my favorite verses with my social media audience. I had no idea that one of my esteemed readers and contacts had been quietly compiling my selected verses into a book and one day would present it to me as a gift!
I met Shahzad Niaz five years ago while working on a project with him. He is a native of Bahawalpur. He possesses a Master of Law from the University of Karachi and has been practicing law as a Freelance Attorney. His literary and cultural interests were what drew me to him most. He has a passion for poetry and excels at “Haiku,” a Japanese poetic form consisting of three lines with few syllables. Since 2006, he has participated as a poet in the Annual Urdu Haiku Mushaira hosted by the Pakistan Japan Cultural Association, Sindh under the auspices of the Consulate of Japan in Karachi. In addition, he is a member of the Management Committee of a Karachi-based literary group called “Halqa Ahbab-e-Zauq” and has been organizing weekly literary events since 2021. Additionally, he is involved with the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association, Sindh. 2016 saw the release of his Haiku collection (ڈھلتی جائے رین ).
He meticulously compiled my heartfelt selection of poems into a literary treasure trove, as evidenced by the pages of this book. His foresight and diligence have transformed my disorganized reflections into a cohesive and invaluable collection, a gift I will always treasure.
The overwhelming emotions I experience while reading this book leave me awestruck and profoundly moved. This extraordinary initiative has afforded me the opportunity to spread this poetry throughout the readers’ souls and minds. This book’s reach and influence are evidence of the power of collaboration and the enchantment that results from harmonious creative cooperation.
Shahzad has contributed innumerable hours, meticulous editing, and unwavering commitment to this endeavor, for which I am profoundly grateful. Not only has the praise for my selection immortalized these words, but it has also reaffirmed my belief in the profound impact of sincere encouragement and support. Thank you so much.
